Marissa joined Ron and I at our state’s Home School Conference. This gave her the chance to have input into the curriculum we will use for next year. She was also able to participate in Generation Joshua, meet other home school kids and be reintroduced to sitting in a classroom all day. I suppose we don’t really “un-school” as I do tightly schedule the part of the day where I try to help Marissa learn to write clearly, speak articulately and think logically. But, we only “do school” for two hours a day. We do this every day and don’t break for summers. It works for us and allows us to keep our routine the same. It also allows us to take spontaneous mini vacation frequently throughout the year to accommodate those days when we have off days and would rather craft, shop or go outside and enjoy the seasons first snow. It also allows us to spend 3 or 4 days (or weeks even) doing something that a child without a learning disability could easily do in one day.
Anyway, here is what we selected:
Marissa was anxious to get started on Science. With the exception of our science project, we had not really done a lot of science last year. So we have already dug into the curriculum. She could hardly wait. I swear she thought the curriculum fair was like Christmas.
